Lizelle's Blog Post.

Today, we had a little minor quiz.
Formula for a parallel: A=BH
Formula for a trapezoid: (B1+b2) / 2 H
Formula for a rectangle: LW
Formula for a square: s2
Formula for a circle: A= πr2
Perimetre for a triangle: S+S+S
Perimeter for a qualadrateral : S+S+S+S
Perimetre for an n-gon: Add all sides.
Circumfrance = πD
Diametre = R2 or C/π

So then we worked on this:

We discussed what this net makes, and it made a rectangular prism.

FORMULA:

SA= 2(lw) +Ph
= 2(3.2) + (3.3+2+2)4
= 2(6) + 4(10)
= 12 + 40
= 52 units squared.

Also, we discussed about our homework last night.

Many people got this wrong, because we didn't use the pytha. theory!

We figured out that the homework was in the shape of a triangular based prism!
Pythagorean:
A2+b2=C2
2^2 + 3^2 = C2
4 + 9 = C2
13 = C2
square root 13.

Alright, so let's use this information and plug it into our math part!

Area blue+Area Red+Area Green+2 area black= S2+lw+pythagorasw+2)bh/2+2squared+(3)(2)+3.87+2(3)(2)2
But since the 2's at the end get cancelled out, the formula should look like this:
Area blue+Area Red+Area Green+2 area black= S2+lw+pythagorasw+2)bh/2+2squared+(3)(2)+3.87+2
(3)(2)

For todays homework: It's

To be honest, I am having trouble solving this. If any of you guys see this, may you help me. It would mean a lot!

Oh yes, and guys don't forget to do

Textbook: 1.3 4, 5, 6,7
and to write in your journal, okay. :)
bye guys!

  1. Great post, Lizelle. The information was easy to understand and the pictures were very helpful. For the formula quiz, I think it would be better to use the full name for the parallelogram, so it won't confuse anyone. You could also add that another way to find the area of a rectangle is lxh. In the question with the Pythagorean theorem some of the formula went off the post.

    Oh, and about today's homework:

    a^2 + b^2 = c^2
    3^2 + 4^2
    9 + 16 = c^2
    √25 = √c^2
    5 = c

    SA= 2(area 1)+ area 2+ area 3 + area 4
    = 2(bh/2) + lw + lw + s^2
    = 2[3(4)/2] + 3(5) + 4(3) + 3^2
    = 2(12) + 15 + 12 + 9
    = 24 + 15 + 12 + 9
    = 60u^2

    Anyone, please. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  2. Great job Lizelle, I like how you explained and put it very organized making it easy to read. Next time try and use different colours for the net. Anabelle I got the same answer as you and Lizelle thanks for reminding me of the questions

  3. For the homework question, you need to find the width of the rectangle, since you already know the length which is 3units. To find the width of the top rectangle, you need to find the hypotenuse of the triangle, because if you were to make the 3 dimensional figure of this shape, the width of the top rectangle would be the same as the hypotenuse of the triangle. Then once you find that you can put it onto your NET and then start to solve the problem with the formula that we learned from Mr. Backe. Sorry if this is a little confusing.

  4. Great post Lizelle, I like how you added all the notes from today and the pictures made everything easier to understand. To be honested I'm having trouble understanding this question aswell. The only this I found a little confussing about this post is this part....
    Area blue+Area Red+Area Green+2 area black= S2+lw+pythagorasw+2)bh/2+2squared+(3)(2)+3.87+2(3)(2)2
    But since the 2's at the end get cancelled out, the formula should look like this: Area blue+Area Red+Area Green+2 area black= S2+lw+pythagorasw+2)bh/2+2squared+(3)(2)+3.87+2
    (3)(2)

  5. Great job, Lizelle. You post was organized making it easy to follow. I liked your pictures, they were clear, but I do think you could have added some colour to accentuate important words. As for the formula for area of a parallelogram , I agree with Anabelle, it would be better to put the full word. Otherwise, great post Lizelle, especially with the time you had.;)

    Anabelle: I think you may be right, though mine is different. I got 48u^2, I am possibly wrong though, since you and Jocelyn got the same answer. Wouldn't 2[3(4)/2] = 6? Whereas in the next line you put 2(12) instead of 2(6), just asking.
    I got:
    SA= area 1+ area 2+ area 3 + 2(area 4)
    = s^2 + lw + lw + 2(bh/2)
    = 3^2 + (3)(4) + (5)(3) + 2 [(4)(3)/2]
    = 9 + 12 + 15 + 12
    = 48u^2

    I don't know which one of us is right, I just gave my answer, hope it helps. :)

  6. Wait, you're probably right, Olivia. I messed up on the surface area for the triangle.

  7. Excellent post Lizelle! You had all the notes and information from today's class in the post. You wrote this information in a way that it was easily understandable. And for the math I agree with Olivia. That is what I got. Overall a great post. Keep it up!

  8. Great post Lizelle! Good job on getting all the information from class today onto your post! I understood what you were explaining in your problems. I agree with Olivia and Nils. I had the same answer as them too. Overall great job! keep it up(:

  10. Good Job Lizelle! You included all the formulas that we learned on Thursday, included the shape we worked on. For the part you where solving the rectangular it is a bit confusing when you solve the formulas in one line maybe next time you would line in up top to bottom for certain areas like the way we solve it in class,I like how you put the homework up so people won't forget what is for homework. I also had trouble finding out the answer for the triangular prism (Thursdayhomework), Olivia helped me figure out what to do

    Pythagoras

    A² + B² = C²
    3² + 4² = C²
    9 + 16 = C²
    25 = C² =
    √25 = √C²
    5 = C

    Surface Area

    SA= A4 + A3 + A2 + 2(A1)
    = s² + lw + phytw + 2(bh/2)
    = 3² + (4)(3) + 5(3) + 2(4.3/2)
    = 9 + 12 + 15 + 12
    = 21 + 27
    = 48 u²

    One more thing, you should have added a few colors in your blog to make it even better otherwise GOOD JOB!

  11. Good Job Lizelle,
    I like how you made pictures to explain your work. I also liked how you told us that you didn't really understand what to do. But it was really hard to understand. All the work in one colour not spaced out. But overall good job!
