Question #11, 2.3 Problem Solving With Rational Numbers in Fraction Form
Things you will need to know to help you solve this question:
- a jiffy = 1/100 of a second or 0.01 of a second
- Naima types 50 words in 1 minute
- 1 minute is 60 seconds
- s stands for seconds, w stands for words
The main goal is to find out how many jiffies it takes Naima to type 1 word.
First you divide 60 by 50 to find out how many seconds it takes her to type one word:
60s/50w = 1.2s per 1w

*You can't have a decimal in a fraction, I meant to write 60/50 = 1.2.
How I got 1.2s per 1w:
The next step is to find out how many jiffies (0.01s or 1/100s) are in 1.2s. You convert 1.2s into a fraction.
1.2s as an improper fraction is:
To find out how many jiffies are in 1.2s you divide 1 1/5 by 1/100.

ReplyDeleteGreat job, Olivia! I like how you colour coded the important words, but as a suggestion, I recommend that you should use around 3-4 colours, as it would be less distracting and confusing. The pictures are clear, as with the explanations. Keep up the good work!
